Helping you excel in pitches, presentations, and critical meetings

We’ve coached clients at the highest level in business, professional services, and politics. We have particular experience in coaching clients working in financial services.

We know the attention limitations of a corporate client who has just heard five consecutive investment banking pitches. We know what an audience of equity analysts expect from a results presentation. We know that some Private Equity firms sometimes won’t even let you deliver your M&A presentation, and just come with questions. We know that sometimes a twenty minute presentation to the executive board needs to be delivered in five. We know that partners don’t always want a ‘pitch’ at the Investment Committee.

We can help you think through your strategy for a critical meeting or presentation, and we can coach you to perform at your best on the day.

Our Clients are great communicators

We give them the tools to achieve excellence consistently, whatever the pressure.

We are proud of our client’s success

All our advice is constructive, candid and with a sharp focus on our client’s success.

Whatever skills you gain, never lose authenticity

Affectation, whether executed effectively or not, is rarely invisible. Be yourself.

Powerful communication starts with listening

Our clients communicate better with their own words than with ours. We listen.

Our Approach

Whatever the situation, we are sharply focused on our client’s success.

Whether it’s a presentation, pitch, or investor meeting – just think about a great conversation with the audience. Igniting it, developing it, and keeping interest.

We won’t ask you to stand in a certain pose, make a shape with your hands, or add more ‘drama’ to your voice. The price you pay for cosmetic advice like this is authenticity.

The setting might be many people or one, an M&A sell-side or board meeting, but the principles of great communication are the same:

  • Understand your own style. Your voice, gestures and personality are unique. If you can behave and act the same way when you are relaxed, engaged, and confident… under pressure…that’s the key to powerful communication.
  • Grow your relationship with your listener. At any given moment in a conversation, you’re aware of your listener’s thoughts and are reading their reactions. When you present, think deliberately about what your listener will be interested in, and show your audience you’re interested in them throughout.
  • Speak with natural impact. Speaking is neither prose nor analysis. It’s critical to use a strong structure that works aurally, alongside decks or visuals. Natural speech needs simple language, and you can develop an instinctive facility to be concise, to the point, precisely proving your arguments and giving relatable examples.

We develop your skills by teaching simple, tried-and-tested communications tools, and then working with you to practice and develop them whilst using your own material, or sharply focused on a specific event that is important to you.

Our Services

We help clients succeed in their critical meetings and presentations.

Our expertise is coaching people to use their most persuasive words, as effectively as they can, as consistently as possible.

Communications Skills Coaching

We coach clients on effective presentation so that they can consistently perform at their best, in their own style. We often work towards a specific event but leave clients with tools to repeat their success.

Financial Presentations

M&A sell-sides, IPOs, Company Results, Fund-raising, LP Investor Days.

Presenting to a financial audience can sometimes be challenging. You can expect short attention spans, pre-existing contrary views, and a vested interest to challenge what you say. Finding the right tone for any persuasive financial communication is crucial. On the one hand, pushing ‘sales messages’ can seem clumsy, and alienate the listener. At the other end, simply describing a business or fund and narrating the financial statement fails to help people see the figures in context.

It’s also vital for any team to be seen as relaxed, confident, and credible. They must use their own words and be comfortable telling their story – whilst being guided by what investors are looking for.

Investment Banking Client Relationships

We aim to increase your win rate with mandates. Whether formal pitches, or informal marketing, we look at your story, how you deliver it, and your visuals. We’ll help you think critically about your client’s perspective, which results in better dialogue. At the end of the coaching, you should have a clear idea on how present powerfully within your own style. You’ll also have a clear idea of how to shape your content to be high-impact and memorable, with pitch-books that support you.

Board Level Communications

We advise senior corporate officers presenting at board level. Effective communications skills are critical to facilitate the free flow of information, time efficiency, and therefore informed, considered, decision making.

Speeches

We have coached high-profile clients and edited their speeches for venues such as political party conferences, The Davos World Economic Forum, The World Bank, and the Oxford University Union. We have a special expertise on speeches that are required to be fully scripted, should it be required.

Pitch Advisory

We help you to win a specific pitch. We help you plan, rehearse, and make sure you execute on the day. We will guide you in discussing your strategy, messages, and performance – both as individuals and as a team. Using an outsider’s perspective, we can guide an analysis of your client, and competitive situation.

We’re clear about the importance of pitching excellence, the best ‘pitches’ do not seem like pitches at all – more like a conversation that is centred around solving the client’s problem.

Alas, it’s not a simple as opening the conversation to the client and taking their order. Most industries have moved from the ‘talking about yourself’ model to the ‘talking about the client’ model. Often this can mean a relationship building phase, in which information discovery questions are asked, and then a ‘pitch phase’, which involves presenting the solution. It’s much more comfortable for the seller but is frequently boring for the buyer: everyone they meet takes them through the questions/ solutions model. They learn nothing new.

A great pitch is a balance of active listening and questions, but also having something engaging and memorable to say. We give clients a robust preparation process that will help them get this right.
